Learning the new language and developing a cultural awareness of the new home country is essential for the successful integration of immigrant children and young people. To support the learning and teaching of languages among young immigrants, the Europe-wide integration project ACTIN ("ACT and connect for INtegration: language learning & cultural awareness") focuses on cooperation: with schools and universities, stakeholders, non-governmental organizations and local communities.

The ACTIN project promotes the integration of young immigrants through language acquisition, education and community. The overarching goal is to support not only children and young people, but also schools, non-governmental organizations and stakeholders in the field of education through various methods and techniques. ACTIN focuses on the active participation of immigrant children and young people as well as teaching staff in the design, implementation and evaluation of language learning processes and the tools and methods developed. The project combines theory and research with the real social challenges of integration, involves citizens and interest groups in seven European countries in its measures and strengthens cooperation between universities and non-governmental organizations.

The implementation of the project is divided into several areas, such as:

• Formal education activities that promote language learning and cultural awareness,
• Activities that create strong community bonds between immigrants and locals,
• Training seminars for teachers and other stakeholders,
• Introduction of a school partnership program,
• Online open source with teaching and learning materials

ACTIN is funded by the European Commission as part of the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund 2021-2027 (AMIF). The project will run from March 2024 to February 2027.
